We already knew Nick Grant was a sick lyricist. Then he arrived at NPR headquarters with a mild case of the flu and quickly demonstrated why the title of his debut — Return of the Cool — should be taken quite literally. Hailing from a region where rap’s young guns and lil innovators tend to defy tradition, the South Carolina-by-way-of-Atlanta native proves being a purist is not just for the old heads.
Being cut from a vintage cloth has kept him in good company. He groomed himself on high school freestyle battles before working his way up to become the first signee to Culture Republic, the new partnership started by three of the most proven executives in the game, Jason Geter (T.I., Grand Hustle), Chaka Zulu (Ludacris, Disturbing Tha Peace) and Bernard Parks (Goodie Mob, Organized Noize). He’s a sly reminder that, contrary to popular opinion, the South still has a mouthful to say — and it doesn’t always have to be yelled, gurgled or Auto-Tuned to death. Sometimes it can be conveyed coolly, from a seated position, while backed by Washington D.C.’s soul garage band Black Alley, and still cut through all the noise.

I came across this video from B.I.G. J. The Frothymain, I know when he sends me a link with no title or info, I gotta prepare myself to be floored. This definitely floored me, Yebba has such a airy soulful warm voice, absolutely was impressed. Her name is Abbey so that’s Yebba backwards, which was cool to me but I’ll be following up to check out more of her music like this newly released single ‘Evergreen’ that you can check out below. Stay looking out for the songstress Yebba!!!

B. Dot the God goes into a full education and game giving mode to Fiji Osa. In my opinion this was a 3-0 situation. If nothing else, you have to respect Dot’s ability to create a think tank of sorts in all his verses, memorable lines like “… If I sound mad it’s cause I’m am/I’m tired of the shit you been propagating/ you’ve been indoctrinated/claim you religious, don’t even know the difference between God and Satan/I’m waiting for you to get off that slave ship/nigga you basic/they etching sketches in your brain/I’m here to shake you up to erase it … ” and that’s just one of the many in-depth layers of rhymes that B. Dot delivered.
This battle was one of my favorites from B. Dot, he came with so much flames and knowledge. Enjoy!!!
